AMSTERDAM – Sheffield Wednesday defender Oguchi Onyewu is set for an exam after departing the club's Friday night defeat at Leicester City early with an apparent strain across the back side of his ribcage.

Onyewu was removed at halftime of the 2-1 loss, but the Championship outfit are crossing fingers over a prognosis expected to arrive within the next few days.

"Early indications are that Oguchi pulled a back muscle, for which he will be scanned shortly," Owls press officer Trevor Braithwait told MLSsoccer.com on Saturday.

In the drop zone when Onyewu arrived this January, Wednesday stand 12 points above the relegation fray. Before Friday's match, the team had put up a 7-4-2 record across all competitions with the US World Cup hopeful on the field, leaking just 12 goals in those 13 games.
