American Exports: USMNT midfielder Jose Torres leaves Tigres match injured in stunning home loss

GUADALAJARA, Mexico – With the World Cup only 80 days away, any time a potential participant does down injured, the alarm bells start to ring.

Tigres UANL midfielder Jose Torres has been starting games and impressing in recent weeks, but he came off in the 31st minute of his team’s 2-0 home loss to Querétaro on Saturday.

Torres suffered a foul one minute earlier, but there has been no official word on the extent of the injury from the club at the time of publication.



The loss was a major shock against a Querétaro side that hadn’t won in five Liga MX matches, although Tigres remain within three points of the playoffs.

Also on Saturday, Gabriel Farfan wasn’t in the 18 for Chiapas in their 2-0 loss at Pachuca. Elsewhere, Jose Villarreal didn't appear for Cruz Azul Hidalgo in their 3-1 loss at Mérida. 


On Sunday, Jonathan Bornstein's Atlante defeated high-flying Toluca 2-1 in Cancún to increase their chances of survival in Mexico's top division.


Bornstein came on for the last 10 minutes of the win, which moves Atlante up to fifth place.
