Sacramento Republic FC have their home.
The Cal Expo Board on Friday unanimously approved a deal with Ovations Fanfare to build a multiuse stadium that will be home to the USL PRO expansion side, TheSacramento Bee’s Ryan Lillis reported via Twitter.
Plans for the 8,000-seat stadium (above) were revealed last week.
Lillis reported that the agreement with Ovations Fanfare, a food service company that is a subsidiary of national sports and entertainment giant Comcast Spectacor, is to construct and finance the $3 million facility, with a financial contribution to the project from the Republic.
The report said construction is expected to take two to three months, meaning the Republic may have to play their first few home matches at Hughes Stadium on the Sacramento City College campus.
Sacramento opens with a road match March 29 against newly created LA Galaxy II, with their home opener April 26 against the Harrisburg City Islanders. The club is also planning to schedule friendlies matches with teams from England, Mexico and MLS.
