American Exports: Brek Shea back in Barnsley lineup for loss to Wigan

AMSTERDAM – Barnsley winger Brek Shea returned from illness on Tuesday night to work the second half of a 2-0 Championship loss at Wigan.

With the visitors already down two, Shea (pictured) emerged after halftime to work a moderately threatening comeback shift. The former FC Dallas ace fired four shots on the night, but was only able to trouble the goalkeeper with one of them. Still next-to-bottom in the table, Barnsley saw their winless drought extended to five league matches.

Also, Zak Whitbread went unused as Derby County edged out a 1-0 win at Sheffield Wednesday. Now unbeaten in their last six games, the third-place Rams pulled to within two points of the league’s second automatic promotion slot.

Meanwhile, in the Champions League, David Yelldell served as backup netminder in Bayer Leverkusen’s 4-0 defeat at Paris Saint-Germain in the round of 16 opening game.
