Colorado Rapids goalkeeper Matt Pickens seeking new opportunities in 2014, training with Stabaek

Are Matt Pickens' days with the Colorado Rapids numbered?

The veteran goalkeeper was spotted playing in a Saturday friendly for Norwegian side Stabaek – the club is coached by former US national team manager Bob Bradley – and the Rapids confirmed that they are working with Pickens "to find the best fit for him moving forward, whether it is here in Colorado or elsewhere."

“We’ve been working with Matt to find a solution that is positive for both him and the club, so we’re allowing him to explore his options,” Rapids technical director Paul Bravo told the club's website. “He’s been a great pro for this club, and we want to help him find a situation where he can play matches."

PIckens is technically under contract with the Rapids in 2014, but he's been "an excused absence" since the team kicked off preseason training camp.

He held the No. 1 goalkeeping spot in Colorado from 2009 through the 2012 season, only to see Clint Irwin snag the starting role when a broken arm sidelined PIckens in the third match of the 2013 season.

Irwin and Joe Nasco are the only other goalkeepers currently on the team's roster.
