Though not injured, according to the club, the US star is among 10 players dropped from the lineup that sleepwalked through a galling FA Cup replay exit at home to third-flight strugglers Sheffield United last Tuesday.
Further north, Geoff Cameron worked another solid shift at right back on Wednesday night, helping Stoke City battle out a 1-1 draw at home with Swansea City.
The former Houston Dynamo man did most of his business at the back on this night, racking up five tackles, five clearances and a game-best six pass interceptions. Now undefeated in three league games, the Potters sit in 14th place.
Elsewhere, Brad Friedel served as backup netminder for Tottenham's 4-0 cruise through Newcastle. Spurs posted their sixth win from a seven-game EPL unbeaten road run to stay level on points with fourth-place Liverpool.
