This season of "The Bachelor" features an ex-soccer pro who wants back in game | SIDELINE

Juan Pablo Galavis, contestant on "The Bachelor"

Season No. 18 of The Bachelor kicked off Monday night. And that's a sentence I never thought I would write for this website.

So now some poor chap is going to be subjected to weeks -- prehaps even months -- of 27 women throwing themselves at his feet, vying for his eternal love. Who would ever agree to such a horrid thing?

Meet Juan Pablo Galavis, this season's bachelor, who at least seems like a really decent dude. He played professional soccer in Venezuela and the United States (former PDL side Cascade Surge and Miami FC of the former USL First Division) from 2001-08.

Juan Pablo was born in New York, moved to Venezuela as a child, then moved back to the States to play collegiately at Roberts Wesleyan College and begin his pro career with the Salem, Ore., PDL club.

He also took part in Houston Dynamo legend Brian Ching's testimonial match, the first in MLS history, last month at BBVA Compass Stadium. He scored once.

As Galavis states in the above video clip from his Monday night appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, he wants back in the professional game. And he wants in as part of MLS's 21st team in 2015:

He says in the interview that while his left foot still has something in it, he'll have to lose 15 pounds and "run from [LA] to Venezuela 20 times" to get soccer fit. You somehow do that, Juan Pablo, I promise we'll get Orlando City to bring you in for a workout.
