GUADALAJARA, Mexico – DaMarcus Beasley’s move to Querétaro from Puebla was made official by Gallos Blancos last week, but the club released a statement Tuesday indicating that the deal is now off.
“DaMarcus Beasley will not play for our team as he has decided to suit up for another club,” read a statement on the Gallos Blancos website.
Just hours earlier on Tuesday, Querétaro coach Ignacio Ambríz stated in a press conference that he expected 31-year-old Beasley to arrive at the club in the next few days, but a press statement from Gallos Blancos on Monday announcing the arrival of incoming players at training notably omitted the American’s name.
Querétaro had announced the signing last Tuesday, provoking Beasley’s agent Richard Motzkin into a full-blooded denial on Twitter, while ESPN reported the following Tuesday that the deal had fallen through.
Then, on Tuesday, Puebla confirmed to MLSsoccer.com that the deal was indeed not yet done, even as the Liga MX's registration window for domestic transfers is set to close on Wednesday evening.
