MLS Fantasy: Three experts falter in final week, one capitalizes and secures spot in quarterfinals

ExtraTime Experts League Playoffs

(1) Jatinho vs SBI United (8)
(2) Newborn FC vs Mass Confrontation (7)
(3) FC Fuzzy Bunny vs Meara's French Licks (6)
(4) Fort Nonsense SC vs Bad Idea Jeans (5)

The playoff matchups for the ExtraTime Experts League have been set, but not without some late season drama.'s Ashleigh Ignelzi (Iggy FC), who was atop the standings after Round 1, dropped the final game of our regular season last week, thus eliminating her from the eighth and final playoff spot.

A win from Ignelzi, American Soccer Now's John Godfrey (American Soccer Now) or ESPN's Max Bretos (COLOTERORITA) could've secured their playoff hopes, but all faltered, paving the way for Soccer By Ives' Ives Galarcep (SBI United) to vie for a shot at MLS Fantasy playoff stardom.

+- Rank Team W D L Total Score Points
1 Jatinho 31 2 6 2,617 95
2 Newborn FC 28 1 10 2,430 85
3 FC Fuzzy Bunny 27 2 10 2,491 83
4 Fort Nonsense SC 27 2 10 2,340 83
5 Bad Idea Jeans 27 0 12 2,285 81
6 Meara's French Licks 26 2 11 2,525 80
7 Mass Confrontation 25 1 13 2,292 76
8 SBI United 23 0 16 2,340 69
9 Iggy FC 22 3 14 2,247 69
10 American Soccer Now 22 1 16 2,294 67
11 COLOTERORITA 22 1 16 2,174 67

Galarcep did exactly what he needed to do by beating up on's Dan Haiek (53-24) in the final week, but no one could've predicted the three people ahead of him would falter so badly. Then again, anything is possible in fantasy sports.

So who's to blame for these three managers' "end-of-the season-meltdown" besides themselves? And who should Ives be thanking should he hoist the trophy when it's all said and done? Simple.

  • Greg Lalas (Tesla's Revenge)
  • Matthew Tomaszewicz (FC Fuzzy Bunny)
  • Jason Saghini (Newborn FC)

Here are the results from their Conference Semifinals second-leg matchups:

Tesla's Revenge 47 - 43 Iggy FC
FC Fuzzy Bunny 58 - 26 American Soccer Now
Newborn FC 66 - 52 COLOTERORITA

These managers are this year's New York Red Bulls and their opponent was this year's Chicago Fire. For the two moving on to the playoffs, they'll hope their run extends longer in fantasy than the New York Red Bulls did in real life.
