American Exports: DaMarcus Beasley & Puebla out of Liga MX playoff race

DaMarcus Beasley with Puebla

GUADALAJARA, Mexico – DaMarcus Beasley will once again miss out on the Liga MX playoffs, with Puebla only managing a 1-1 tie on Sunday against Pachuca st Estadio Cuauhtémoc.

La Franja needed the three points to keep their hopes alive, but had them snatched from it when Pachuca’s Abraham Carreño netted a penalty in the 92nd minute to cancel out Matias Alustiza’s opener in the 81st.

Beasley played the 90 minutes at left wing back, creating some early danger in the first minute when he burst down the wing, cut back and sent in a dangerous cross. The former Chicago Fire player delivered a fine through-ball to send Alfredo Moreno clear on goal in the 80th, but the Argentine wasn’t able to convert.

Beasley joined Puebla in June 2011, but is yet to make the playoffs with the club, which could be battling relegation with a poor Clausura 2014 season.

Michael Orozco also played the full game for Puebla in his usual position on the right hand side of the three center backs and continued his solid form.

There was better news on Saturday for Jose Torres, with Tigres UANL drawing 1-1 at home with León to maintain their hopes of making the postseason. Torres played the last 20 minutes after coming off the bench to play in central midfield, but could do little to prevent León’s equalizer.

Tigres sit in ninth place in the Liga MX and will need a win next weekend at Atlas.

In the Liga de Ascenso on Friday, Ventura Alvarado started and went 90 minutes for Necaxa, who fell 4-0 at Universidad de Guadalajara, with Sonny Guadarrama coming off the bench for the last 35 minutes. Despite the loss, Necaxa confirmed their place in the playoffs.

Marco Vidal played the full game for Lobos BUAP in their 2-1 win over Altamira on Saturday, while Jesus Padilla netted a 93rd-minute equalizer for Dorados as they tied 2-2 at home to Celaya, also on Saturday.

Down in Honduras, Kevin Hoyos’ Victoria lost 1-0 to Parrillas One on Saturday, with the American completing the full match.
