Welcome to Latino del Año 2013!
Starting today, FutbolMLS.com will unveil the 32 players nominated for Latino del Año 2013, where you, the fans, will select the Latin American player who had the best performance throughout the 2013 MLS regular season. Remember that you can start voting as of Monday, November 4.
MLSsoccer.com and FutbolMLS.com editors selected 32 Latino players that made an impact throughout the 2013 MLS regular season, including winners of FutbolMLS.com’s weekly contest, Latino de la Jornada, and a draw was held to divide the players in eight groups of four players each.
Here are the nominees from Group A. (Click here to see the nominees in Group B.)
The Brazilian is the top seed in the group. Besides being one of the top players this season with Vancouver Whitecaps, Camilo won the 2013 Budweiser Golden Boot, was voted MLS Player of the Week four times, and received the most nominations for Latino of the Week.
Although he will miss the playoffs, he will be greatly missed, and thanks to his 22 goals in the regular season, Camilo has left an indelible mark on this 2013 campaign.
|Mauro Rosales||The Argentine midfielder is the creative hub for the Seattle Sounders. He changes a game, and will attempt to do so in the upcoming MLS Playoffs. Rosales' combinations on the attacking half alongside players such as Clint Dempsey, Eddie Johnson and Obafemi Martins make him one of the most lethal creators in the league.|
|Álvaro Saborío||"Sabo" is another striker who always has the goal on his mind. His 12 strikes this season made him the leading scorer in for Real Salt Lake, the No. 2-seeded team in the Western Conference. Despite various injuries that sidelined him for several games in midseason, the Costa Rican international will be the trump card for RSL in the playoffs.|
"Gaby," or "The Little Ghost," came to the Colorado Rapids after being one of the top scorers in the 2013 CONCACAF Gold Cup, and only took him a few games to adjust to the league. Torres scored three goals in seven regular-season games, including two in the 3-2 victory over Vancouver last weekend that led his club to the playoffs.
The Panamanian international is emerging as one of the players to watch in the postseason.
Created in 2010, Latino del Año is FutbolMLS.com's annual contest to select the best Latin American Player in MLS based on fan voting.
The contest is held at the end of each MLS regular season, consisting of three weeks of voting by fans who determine which players advance to each round until a winner is chosen.
