FC Dallas 2, Seattle Sounders 0 | 2016 MLS Match Recap

Home cooking continues to cure all woes for FC Dallas, while the Seattle Sounders succumbed to road blues, with a 3rd-minute goal proving the match-winner in this 2-0 contest.

Dallas led soon after the first whistle, when Chad Marshall took down Walker Zimmerman in front of goal to concede a penalty after an FCD corner. Mauro Diaz stepped up to take the kick and blasted the ball into the top corner.

The game was sealed up in the 80th minute, when FCD's Mauro Rosales found Michael Barrios with a perfectly lofted ball from near the midfield circle. Barrios corraled the ball with a great first touch, then directed it past Seattle 'keeper Stefan Frei

Box Score

Three Things

  1. THERE'S NO PLACE LIKE HOME  In 18 all-time regular season MLS meetings, Dallas has only beaten Seattle now four times, with all four victories coming at home. The two clubs have also met in the MLS Cup Playoffs during each of the past two seasons, with both series ending level on aggregate. Including those playoff games, Dallas has never lost at home to Seattle.
  2. DIAZ HEATING UP The penalty marked Diaz' first goal since the third week of play, but his overall performance tonight showed that he's thrown off any rust that may have lingered since his April injuries. His perfectly weighted pass in the second half that sliced diagonally through the Seattle defense was a thing of beauty, even if no goal came of it. He seemed to turn a corner tonight.
  3. IT'S WHAT YOU DO WHEN YOU'VE GOT IT  Trailing for nearly the entire match, it's no surprise that the Sounders held the lion's share of possession. Their passing accuracy was an excellent 86 percent, as Dallas ā€“ at times ā€“ was content to park the bus. However, they only had two key passes into the penalty area and both were crosses from the wing, showing how difficult they found it to break down FCD's compact shape.

They Said It

"Happy with that result, happy to see the boys bounce back this week ā€¦ Today, we were really intelligent tactically and that's probably the best part"

ā€”FC Dallas head coach Oscar Pareja
