MLS Disciplinary Committee fines Seattle Sounders, Sigi Schmid for violating mass confrontation policy

Seattle's Osvaldo Alonso has to be restrained by teammates

The MLS Disciplinary Committee on Tuesday fined both the Seattle Sounders organization and head coach Sigi Schmid for violation of the league’s mass confrontation policy stemming from an incident in the second half of Seattle's 1-0 loss at Portland on Sunday.

The incident occurred in the 74th minute at JELD-WEN Field when several Seattle players confronted official Hilario Grajeda following a red card issued to Sounders midfielder Osvaldo Alonso for elbowing Portland's Will Johnson. (See the video above.)

The Sounders were fined $5,000 and Schmid an additional $1,000 as it was the club's second infraction of the 2013 season.
