American Exports: Jonathan Spector helps steer Birmingham City clear of drop zone

AMSTERDAM – A trio of Americans laced up for English Championship action on Tuesday, with Jonathan Spector helping Birmingham City stay hot at home with a 4-0 rout of guests Millwall.

The US international (above) went the distance at right back as the Brums posted their third straight multiple-goals victory margin across all competition at St. Andrews. The win also pushed Birmingham clear of the drop zone in 17th place.

Elsewhere, Tim Ream worked another encouraging shift at left back as Bolton remained winless in the cellar after a 0-0 stalemate at Blackpool. After keeping the game scoreless with a second-half saving tackle at one end, the former New York Red Bulls defender narrowly missed bagging a winner when firing just over from a corner kick with six minutes to play.

Eric Lichaj and Nottingham Forest settled for a 1-1 share at Charlton. Now unbeaten in their last five league games, the Tricky Trees held firm in fourth place.
