It’s a preview of the Canadian Championship final when the Montréal Impact and Vancouver Whitecaps FC meet for the only time in league play this season, Wednesday evening at Stade Saputo. The Impact saw their two-game league winning streak put to an end last weekend in a 3-0 defeat at the Chicago Fire. Whitecaps FC snapped a two-game losing slide of their own, getting a late winner for a 2-1 win against Real Salt Lake at BC Place. The teams will meet for the Canadian national championship in a two-game series in August.
- The Impact saw their two-game winning streak come to an end in a 3-0 defeat at the Chicago Fire on Saturday evening – their fourth attacking shutout in four league games this season.
- Whitecaps FC put an end to their two-game losing skid as Cristian Techera scored his first MLS goal in dramatic fashion to give his side a 2-1 win against Real Salt Lake at BC Place.
- Whitecaps FC have never lost to the Impact in league play. Vancouver won the first two MLS meetings, a 2-0 win at BC Place in 2012 and a 3-0 win at Stade Saputo in 2013; last year, the teams played to a scoreless draw in Vancouver.
- The teams met in the Canadian Championship final in 2013, reaching a pair of draws but the Impact claiming the Voyageurs’ Cup on away goals. The teams will meet in this year’s Canadian Championship final, with the matches set for Aug. 12 (at Stade Saputo) and Aug. 26 (at BC Place).
