American Exports: Club Brugge deny reports of imminent Oguchi Onyewu signing

AMSTERDAM – Club Brugge have shot down Monday morning reports that free agent defender Oguchi Onyewu is set to join the team.

Belgian outlet SudPresse claimed that the US veteran had already passed a medical exam at Jan Breydel Stadium, but the 13-time Jupiler League champions say that is not the case.

"That is not correct," club press officer Kirsten Willem told MLSsoccer.com. "He is not expected [to arrive for a medical] here."

A free agent after mutually terminating the final season of a three-year-deal late last week, Onyewu can be signed by teams in most leagues even after Monday's transfer deadline.

The 31-year-old has also previously spoken of an interest in a first foray into Major League Soccer, but sources have told MLSsoccer.com he is still hoping to continue his European career a bit longer.

Onyewu currently has introductory interest from one club in France, but no offers.
