New England Revolution sign Jamaican international defender O'Brian Woodbine

O'Brian Woodbine, Jamaica

The New England Revolution addressed a position of need on Thursday, announcing the signing of Jamaican national team left back O'Brian Woodbine on a free transfer.

The 25-year-old recently played in Finland with Vaasan Palloseura and HJK Helsinki. He has 14 caps with Jamaica, featuring as a starter in their last three World Cup qualifiers, including a loss against the USMNT.

Woodbine has previously played in the US, spending two seasons on loan with the Charleston Battery in 2009 and 2010.

With second-year left back Tyler Polak on loan to USL PRO side Rochester Rhinos for most of 2013, Chris Tierney has logged the bulk of minutes at the position for the Revs this year, making 21 appearances.

Polak was scheduled to return to training with the Revolution this week and will compete in a three-way battle for playing time at left back with Tierney and Woodbine, who is set to join his new MLS club on Sept. 3.
