AMSTERDAM – Sunderland have had an offer of approximately €7 million ($9.3 million) for midfielder Michael Bradley knocked back by AS Roma, MLSsoccer.com confirmed on Saturday.
Italian reports orginally suggested that the Giallorossi told the Black Cats they would not accept less than €10 million for the US national team's bald eagle, but a source close to the situation told MLSsoccer.com that the price tag quoted was actually €12 million (just over $16 million).
Sunderland boss Paulo Di Canio has already welcomed 11 new signings at the Stadium of Light during the current transfer window, including US strike star Jozy Altidore. They were the second Premier League club to table a failed bid for Bradley this summer, following Everton.
Meanwhile, Bradley -- nicknamed "Il Generale" by the fans in Roma -- will lead Roma into the new Serie A campaign on Sunday with a trip to newly promoted Livorno.
