GUADALAJARA, Mexico – DaMarcus Beasley set up Puebla’s third goal in his team’s 4-2 away win at CD Guadalajara on Sunday.
With the score at 2-2 in the 64th minute, Beasley received the ball on the left hand side of the penalty area, cut inside and fired a low cross which Chivas defender Kristian Álvarez unwittingly directed into his own net.
Both Beasley and Michael Orozco Fiscal went the full 90 for La Franja. Orozco Fiscal played the majority of the game at left back, with Beasley further forward in left midfield. The former San Luis defender went close with headers in each half and was confident in possession in his new position.
The win was Puebla’s first of the Apertura season and came after Manuel Lapuente was replaced as coach by Rubén Omar Romano after last Sunday’s 0-0 tie with Veracruz.
In Mexico’s second division on Friday, Sonny Guadarrama went 90 minutes for Necaxa in their 0-0 home draw with Atlético San Luis and Jesus Padilla played 76 minutes of Dorados’ 2-1 loss at Universidad de Guadalajara.
Further south, FC Dallas loanee Moises Hernandez was left on the bench for Saprissa’s 0-0 draw at UCR in Costa Rica on Sunday, while in Brazil, Freddy Adu was not in Bahia’s 18-man matchday squad for Sunday’s 0-0 tie at home with Santos.
