After a successful stint with the US national team that included six goals and a CONCACAF Gold Cup title, San Jose Earthquakes forward Chris Wondolowski returned to MLS this past weekend at the top of his game.
Wondo finished as the top MLS performer of the Week 23 Castrol Index Top 20 after a two-goal performance in the San Jose Earthquakes' 2-0 win over Chivas USA. Although the reigning league MVP was away from MLS for about a month in July, his goals against Chivas were his first in league play since May 8.
Behind Wondolowski in the Top 5 were Diego Fagundez (No. 2), who had six shots in a losing effort to Toronto FC, as well as Jared Jeffrey (No. 3), who impressed in midfield and scored his first MLS goal in D.C. United's 3-1 win over Montreal. Sporting Kansas City's Soony Saad, who has been playing very well of late, was No. 4 for Week 23 in SKC's 3-2 loss to New York, while Toronto FC designated player Matías Laba rounds out the Top 5 with his debut MLS goal and a strong two-way performance in TFC's win over New England.
