American Exports: Freddy Adu sees first minutes in Brazil for Bahia since May

GUADALAJARA, Mexico – Freddy Adu got his first bit of playing time since late May on Sunday, when he came off the bench for the last 13 minutes in Bahia’s 0-0 tie against city rivals Vitória in Brazilian league play.


The former Philadelphia Union forward came on for Talisca in just his second appearance in Brazil's national championship, but couldn’t manage to break the deadlock and help his side to the three points.



In Mexico on Saturday, Sonny Guadarrama scored in his debut for Necaxa, as Los Rayos overcame Atlamira 3-1 on Saturday evening in the the Ascenso MX.


The Austin, Texas, native opened the scoring in the 14th minute when he latched onto a through-ball, held off the last defender and calmly slotted the ball into the net to carry his preseason goalscoring into the Apertura tournament.


Sticking in the Mexican second division, Marco Vidal went the full 90 minutes in Lobos BUAP’s 1-0 home win over Zacatepec on Friday.


In Liga MX play, U-20 World Cup veteran Alonso Hernandez was an unused substitute in Monterrey’s 1-0 loss at Cruz Azul on Saturday.
