AMSTERDAM – One day before their new season begins, promoted Danish Superliga side Viborg have reacquired defender Babajide Ogunbiyi from Hjørring.
The 26-year-old New York native worked 63 contests for the Greens between 2010-2012, when a knee injury cut his time there short. On Friday, he returned for a fee reported to be near $100,000, inking a two-year-deal.
"I'm really, really happy to be back at Viborg," Ogunbiyi told the club website. "I have always hoped that I could return to the club and I am delighted that it all finally fell into place.

"The coaches, players and fans can expect exactly the same from me as the last time I was here. My first ambition is to achieve a place in the starting lineup, and of course together we must do what we can to keep Viborg in the Superliga."
Ogunbiyi was named Viborg's Player of the Year and a member of the Danish second-flight Team of the Season in 2011, subsequently drawing transfer interest from Germany's 2.Bundesliga. Originally a second-round SuperDraft pick of the New York Red Bulls in 2009, he appeared set to sign for the club last summer, but was deemed not sufficiently fit at the time and eventually joined Hjørring.
Viborg will kick off their first top-flight season since 2008 when Charlie Davies and Randers FC visit on Saturday. Should Ogunbiyi appear in the match, he would become the fourth American to do so for the Greens in top-flight action, following Mike Burns, Robbie Russell and Joe Zewe.
