Gold Cup: USMNT head coach Jurgen Klinsmann says roster changes coming before quarterfinal

Jurgen Klinsmann

HARTFORD, Conn. – Change is coming to the United States’ Gold Cup roster. That much is guaranteed.

Following the US national team’s 1-0 victory against Costa Rica on Tuesday, a result that captured the top spot in Group C and ensured a quarterfinal matchup against El Salvador next Sunday in Baltimore instead of Honduras, head coach Jurgen Klinsmann officially has 24 hours to make four tweaks to his roster ahead of the knockout stages.

And although he passed on discussing specifics following the match, he did admit there would be some new faces in camp this week.

“I’m in contact with the clubs already,” Klinsmann said, “but you’ve got to give me just a couple more hours until tomorrow because I want to first talk, obviously, to the players. But we’re going to make some changes.”

Klinsmann’s choices are limited to names from the preliminary 35-man player pool submitted in June.
