Chicago Fire leave 2014 third kit design up to fans via online contest | THE SIDELINE

Chicago Fire third kit design template

The Chicago Fire are going to have a third kit option for the 2014 Major League Soccer season. And it might just be really awesome, but that could be totally up to you.

The Fire announced on Tuesday the #cf97ThirdKit design contest — open to all fans — to design the club's third kit which will debut for the club's Anniversary game in 2014. The deadline for submissions is Wednesday, August 14.

The rules are simple: You must use the templates provided by the Fire on their website. You must include the American flag, MLS logo and club logo with MLS Cup champions silver star in their respective locations. You must also include the Quaker Man logo on the front of the jersey.

Other than that, do it up as crazy or as simple as you like. But, with the grand prize being given out by the fire for the winning design, we imagine there will be some seriously talented designers taking part in this contest. So download that blank, white template you see above — from here — and throw some serious Fire red and blue on it. Or whatever color you think works.

The five best designs will be put up for a fan vote and the winner will receive roundtrip airfare and accommodations for two to attend the Fire’s match against the Portland Timbers in 2014, including: a private tour of the adidas campus in Portland, an opportunity to meet with adidas jersey designers and $500 to spend at the adidas employee store. All five finalists will receive two tickets to sit in the Chicago Fire’s Second Star Club for a Fire match.

The LA Galaxy unveiled a fan-designed third kit earlier this year as well, to be worn during the current season.
