VOTE: Who is the biggest USMNT Gold Cup roster surprise - in or out? | THE SIDELINE

Carlos Bocanegra

U.S. Soccer announced Jurgen Klinsmann's 23-man roster for the 2013 CONCACAF Gold Cup on Thursday. As with every US national team roster announcement, there were rejoices about players selected, but the loudest commentary always seems to come in regards to certain players left off the roster.

Who is the biggest USMNT Gold Cup roster surprise - in or out?

Former captain Carlos Bocanegra was omitted from the group, putting into serious question the future of his international career. Red-hot goalscoring machine Mike Magee was left off even the provisional 35-man roster in May, thus nixing any hopes he had to play for the US this summer.

Brek Shea hasn't played a whole lot since moving to Stoke City in January, so wouldn't this have been a perfect opportunity to train regularly for a week and play in as many as six games? How unlucky is Juan Agudelo that his return to form with the Revolution happened almost simultaneously as the provisional roster was constructed and announced? Was the inclusion of Landon Donovan surprising for you, in the fact that Klinsmann has now given him a direct path back into the national team?

Or, maybe you were surprised a few of the other entrenched first team starters weren't included for a tournament that does hold eventual access to the 2017 Confederations Cup. Graham Zusi? Omar Gonzalez? Matt Besler?
