GUADALAJARA, Mexico – Sonny Guadarrama has started brightly in preseason for new club Necaxa, netting three goals in two appearances so far for Los Rayos.

In Wednesday’s 2-2 tie against Los Alebrijes de Oaxaca, the Texan forward took the ball outside the penalty area, skipped past a couple of defenders, drove towards goal and finished to make the score 1-1 in the 52nd minute.

He was also on form in his side’s first friendly last Saturday, with his two goals hepling Necaxa to a 2-1 victory over his former club, Santos Laguna.

Guadarrama’s first came in the 20th, after neat interplay with Victor Lojero, while his second arrived two minutes later and was a strike that beat Oswaldo Sánchez from outside the penalty area.

The former US Under-20 international moved from Mérida to Ascenso MX outfit Necaxa earlier this month, as one of the 206 transfers the league announced.
