Toronto FC announce summer friendly visit from Italy's AS Roma

Roma celebrate Totti goal

Toronto FC announced on Wednesday that the club will welcome Italian powerhouse AS Roma to BMO Field for an international friendly on August 7.

“It's always exciting to play a match against a club as storied as AS Roma,” said TFC president and general manager Kevin Payne in a statement. “With great players like [Francesco] Totti and [Daniele] De Rossi, this will be a real test for our players and a treat for our supporters and the Italian community in Toronto.”

A perennial contender in Italy's Serie A, Roma are led by the aforementioned duo of Totti and De Rossi as well as US national team star Michael Bradley. The Giallorossi finished in sixth place in the league last season and reached the final of the Coppa Italia.

The visit to the shores of Lake Ontario is the second date on the Rome club's North American summer tour, adding to their participation in the 2013 MLS AT&T All-Star Game at Sporting Park in Kansas City, Kan., on July 31 (9 pm ET, ESPN, UniMas, TSN/RDS in Canada).

Multiple reports suggest that Roma will announce a third friendly in the coming weeks.
