MLS on Loan: Dom Dwyer adds to impressive campaign by breaking USL PRO goalscoring record

Dom Dwyer with Orlando City SC

Dom Dwyer may not get a chance to score on his parent club when Orlando City SC travel to Sporting KC on Wednesday for a fourth-round US Open Cup date, but the striker racked up a pretty decent consolation prize over the past week: breaking the record for goals scored in USL PRO.

Dwyer notched his 14th and 15th goals of the season for Orlando, one against Phoenix FC on Friday and another against the Antigua Barracuda on Sunday. Both came in Lions victories and both continued a remarkable season for the Sporting KC loanee and his club.

Orlando still sit atop the standings with 32 points through 13 games, seven ahead of second-place Harrisburg. Dwyer's 15 goals have him on top of the USL PRO scoring charts by a mile, eight ahead of his nearest chaser.

Meanwhile, the Philadelphia Union quartet kept Harrisburg City humming with a 2-0 win over Wilmington last Wednesday. Second-half substitute Cristhian Hernandez played 32 minutes and notched an assist for the City Islanders, while Don Anding and Greg Jordan both started. Jimmy McLaughlin replaced Anding in the 75th minute to help seal the result.

Two D.C. United loanees were in action as the Richmond Kickers were held to a 1-1 draw on Saturday at home against those same Wilmington Hammerheads. Goalkeeper Andrew Dykstra was nearly perfect, making one save as the Kickers took a 1-0 lead 12 minutes from time via a goal from former Vancouver Whitecaps midfielder Philippe Davies. But Dykstra was beaten a minute later by second-half sub Steven Perry as the Hammerheads rescued the point. Fellow D.C. loanee, forward Michael Seaton, put in a 60-minute shift for Richmond.

In NASL action, Chicago Fire loanee Kellen Gulley made a cameo appearance for Atlanta in their 1-1 draw with FC Edmonton. Gulley came on with five minutes remaining in regulation and put a shot on frame, only to see it saved.
