US national team releases Danny Williams from camp citing lack of fitness

The USMNT will be down a man ahead of the next two World Cup qualifiers on home soil.

US Soccer announced on Saturday night via Twitter that Hoffenheim midfielder Danny Williams was released from US camp, citing fitness as a reason.

Williams, who made the trip to Jamaica but did not feature in the gameday roster for the 2-1 win in Kingston, was hampered by an ankle injury in the stretch run to Hoffenheim's Bundesliga season.

The last appearance the 24-year-old Williams made for his Bundesliga club came back on March 30.

It was not immediately clear whether US manager Jurgen Klinsmann would call up a replacement.
