American Exports: No truth to rumors of Michael Parkhurst leaving Augsburg

Michael Parkhurst with the US national team

AMSTERDAM – Contrary to recent German reports, Augsburg defender Michael Parkhurst is not in line to leave the Bundesliga survivors this summer.

After arriving from FC Nordsjælland during the winter transfer window, the 29-year-old made just two league appearances while struggling with various injuries over the back half of last season. This stat compelled a few German outlets to suggest that Parkhurst would be searching for a new club over the summer, but his agent says the plan is to make a belated SGL Arena breakthrough in the fall.

"There's some interest in Michael, but he's very happy in Augsburg," Parkhurst rep Lyle Yorks told MLSsoccer.com. "He's looking forward to rejoining the team after he's done with the US national team."

Parkhurst has two years remaining on his Augsburg deal. The club posted seven of its eight wins last season after his January arrival to pull off a great escape from relegation on closing day.

The former New England man is currently on duty with the US national team in Jamaica, but he did not appear during either of the team's international tune-ups against Belgium and Germany last week.
