Chicago Fire's Maicon Santos still out with nagging shoulder injury, won't play against Real Salt Lake

BRIDGEVIEW, Ill. – Maicon Santos was listed as questionable last week on the Chicago Fire's injury report, but there is no question in head coach Frank Klopas' mind that his reserve striker will miss at least another week.

Santos injured his shoulder two weeks ago in an appearance off the bench against Philadelphia. The Fire play at Real Salt Lake on Saturday.

“He's able to do stuff with the ball, but the problem is, it's when there's no contact,” Klopas said. “When he's able to do stuff inside, like do pushups where he can push with his whole body weight so he can hold guys off [he'll be ready] … He's still a ways away from that, though. He can't apply any pressure or hold guys off.”

Midfielder Daniel Paladini has also been held out of training after suffering a calf injury last Friday, when he was scratched just before the team left for Philadelphia.

Arne Friedrich didn't practice outside Wednesday. The German defender has missed the entire season with hamstring and hip injuries and hasn't commented on his injury in weeks.

“He's trying everything,” Klopas said. “There's nothing new to report.”
