MLS Fantasy: Mobile app, draft leagues, point alterations – what else do fans want?

In my last article I talked about some of the updates that have been made to MLS Fantasy Soccer: Manager this year and how is making “fantasy” a reality.

The feedback was great and it’s clear that several fans have a few of the same requests in mind;

  • Mobile App
  • Draft Leagues
  • Point/Value alterations

There have been some discussions about implementing a draft league for the 2014 MLS season, but that’s about all I can say for right now. As far as point/value alterations are concerned, these will likely stay the same through the remainder of the season, although it’s possible that the $0.3m cap on weekly price increases/decreases could change…you’ll just have to wait and see.

The most requested item, and something that has received a lot of thought at MLS Headquarters in New York, is a mobile app. An article from last year estimated that 225 million Americans would eventually own a smartphone. This projection may seem high to some, but heck, if my 91-year old grandfather owns an iPhone and my nine-year old students have one as well, maybe it’s not that unrealistic.

While we anxiously await the final verdict from MLS on whether or not we’ll see an app in 2013, here’s something that might help your craving;

FS:M’s mobile site (pictured above) is fun and very easy to use. There’s still some tweaking that needs to be done, but for the most part it greatly enhances the fantasy experience when you're on your smartphone. The screenshots above were taken from my iPhone 4s. They show my transfers page, one of my leagues (MLS Experts) that I'm currently playing in and the overall Dream Team. The league page is cool because you can view the real-time point totals of every manager during each round. You can go a step further and see who's in their lineup and how each player accumulated their current point totals as well.

If you’re on your phone now, have a look. You can also check it out by logging on at your desktop, pc or tablet. This might not be the ultimate mobile experience for MLS fantasy soccer, but trust me, once you use it you'll be coming back again. So for now, you'll just have to wait on the app!
