David Beckham played what is likely the final game of his storied 20-year career on Saturday and did so in the fashion fans have grown accustomed to: by wearing the captain's armband and setting up a goal.
With the home fans chanting his name, the former LA Galaxy star fed Blaise Matuidi in the 31st minute with a picture-perfect cross that the French midfielder put in the back of the net in Paris Saint-Germain's 3-1 win over Brest at the Parc des Princes.
Beckham also set up PSG's opener just seven minutes in, serving up the free kick that Clément Chantôme fed to Zlatan Ibrahimovic for the finish. He almost set up the big Swede himself just a minute later with a long through-ball into the box, but Ibrahimovic sent his shot wide.
It was an evening of celebration for PSG, who clinched their third Ligue 1 title last weekend and first in 19 years. Beckham announced this past week that he will retire at the end of the season, and manager Carlo Ancelotti handed the 38-year-old the armband for Saturday's match, Beckham's 14th appearance though all competitions for PSG since joining the club on a six-month contract in January.

The former England captain was substituted off in the 82nd minute to a standing ovation, and wept as he walked to the sideline to embraces from his teammates and coaches. Beckham has yet to announce whether he will play in PSG's season finale next Sunday, May 26 at Lorient, but the emotional scenes on Saturday suggest this may have been his final game.
This most recent piece of silverware is the 10th league title in Beckham's decorated career from four different countries: England, Spain, the United States and France. He also has a UEFA Champions League winner's medal and appeared in three World Cups and two European Championships with the English national team.
