With a league campaign ending in a mid-table finish for Milan Borjan and Turkish club Sivasspor, their last hope at domestic success rested in the Turkish Cup.
They took the semifinal first leg 2-1 over Trabzonspor last month, but the second leg was less kind as it all came to a spectacular end. With Borjan in goal, Sivasspor was thumped 6-0 to go crashing out of the competition last Wednesday.
The week was equally bad for Kevin McKenna and FC Köln in Germany as their bid for promotion to the Bundesliga came to an end with a 2-1 defeat to Hertha BSC on Sunday. Their second consecutive poor result leaves Köln in fifth place, seven points back of the promotion playoff spot with just the final game of the season remaining.
With their promotion push also at an end, forward Rob Friend and 1860 Munich also lost their penultimate game of the 2.Bundesliga season. Friend played the full 90 minutes on Sunday as 1860 lost 2-0 to Paderborn. With the loss, they slipped to eighth in the table.
For Julian de Guzman and Jahn Regensburg, it’s just a matter of running out the string as they’ve already been relegated to the 3.Liga for next season. It was a familiar occurrence for Regensburg on Sunday as they dropped their 22nd game of the season with a 3-1 loss to Kaiserslautern.
In the Netherlands, a season that once looked like it could bring silverware for Atiba Hutchinson and PSV Eindhoven came to an end empty-handed as PSV were bested in the final of the KNVB Cup and also had their league season finish as runners-up. Hutchinson played all 90 minutes as PSV lost 2-1 to US international Jozy Altidore and AZ Alkmaar in the Cup and then he played again on Sunday in the league-ending 3-1 loss to FC Twente.
Hutchinson now heads into an uncertain summer as he’s out of contract and could be on the move. PSV announced on Tuesday that Phillip Cocu would be the new coach of the team, which adds more uncertainty to the future of arguably the best player for the Canadian national team.

One thing PSV do have that may entice Hutchinson is Champions League football for next season. Their second-place finish puts them in the qualifying rounds for the high-profile tournament.
As the Scottish Premier League season reaches its conclusion, Andre Hainault has made himself a regular in the squad with Ross County. Hainault made his fourth start for Ross on Sunday as they lost 2-0 to Motherwell. The defeat leaves Ross out of the running for next season’s Europa League as they’re four points back of third place with just one game remaining in the season.
In Sweden, midfielder Nik Ledgerwood opened his goalscoring account for Hammarby as they won their second game in a row, beating Brage 2-0 on Thursday. Though it’s only six games into the new Superettan season, Hammary, coached by former US international Gregg Berhalter, are in the picture for the promotion positions in fourth place.
In Norway, Tosaint Ricketts is still looking for his first goal of the season as he came off the bench in the 89th minute for Sadnes Ulf in their scoreless draw with Molde on Sunday. With just nine points in nine games thus far, Sadnes are in 14th place in the 16-team Eliteserien.
In Portugal, it looks to be a respectable mid-table finish for Pedro Pacheco and Santa Clara in the second-division Liga de Honra. Pacheco played the whole game on Sunday as Santa Clara were on the wrong end of a 2-0 scoreline against Feirense to leave them sitting in ninth place in the league.
In Uruguay, Lucas Cavallini started and lasted 64 minutes on Sunday for Juventud de las Piedras as they beat Nacional 2-0 and are unbeaten in four games. The run of form has moved them up to eighth place in the Clausura.
