Red card to Real Salt Lake's Carlos Salcedo rescinded after review by PRO, yellow issued to Tony Beltran

A case of mistaken identity was rectified on Friday with the announcement that the red card shown to Real Salt Lake's Carlos Salcedo has been rescinded by Major League Soccer's competition department.

Head official Jose Carlos Rivero showed the 19-year-old defender a second yellow card at Gillette Stadium on Wednesday for a hand ball in the box in the 90th minute of an eventual 2-1 RSL victory, but replays clearly showed the ball struck the hand of RSL defender Tony Beltran instead. After reviewing the play, that decision was corrected.

"Through the Professional Referee Organization, the referee informed MLS of the error after the game," the league office said in a statement made available to MLSsoccer.com on Friday. "Therefore, the caution has been expunged from Salcedo’s record and he will be eligible to play vs. Montreal on Saturday.

"Tony Beltran will be assessed the caution that was rightfully due him. The next disciplinary points report will reflect this additional caution in Mr. Beltran’s total."
