September 27, 2015 (WEEK 30, MLS Game #305)

  • Sounders FC made it four games in a row without a loss with a third victory in that time as Obafemi Martins scored for a fourth consecutive game, in a dominant 3-0 win against Vancouver Whitecaps FC on Saturday afternoon at BC Place. Martins also added an assist on Andreas Ivanschitz’s first MLS goal.
  • The teams are meeting for the third time this season. They played to a scoreless draw May 23 at CenturyLink Field. Benny Feilhaber scored the game’s lone goal from the penalty spot to lead SKC to a victory June 6 at Sporting Park.
  • The win in the last meeting snapped Sounders FC’s nine-game league unbeaten streak against Sporting. Since a 1-0 KC win in 2009 in the first meeting ever between the clubs, Seattle had won seven matches (with two draws). It was also Sporting’s first win ever against Sounders FC at home.
  • The teams did meet in the 2012 U.S. Open Cup Final, Sporting winning in a penalty-kick shootout after a 1-1 draw over 120 minutes in K.C., ending Sounders FC’s three-year hold on the Open Cup title.
