American Exports: Champions League hopes over for Michael Bradley & Roma

Michael Bradley with AS Roma

AMSTERDAM – The Champions League charge of Michael Bradley and AS Roma officially ended on Tuesday with a late 1-0 loss to visiting Chievo that put third place in Serie A out of reach.

The US midfielder did not start against his former employers, entering a scoreless game in the 77th minute. As stoppage time began, the visitors countered from a Roma corner kick, with Cyril Théréau applying the fatal touch.

Due to their first defeat since March, the Giallorossi remained seven points shy of third-place AC Milan with two games remaining on their schedule. But Roma still hold a tentative one-point edge for fifth place, which would give them a berth in the 2013-14 Europa League.

Bradley & Co. also have a trophy still to play for with a date with crosstown rivals Lazio in the Coppa Italia final on May 26. The winner of that match also clinches a Europa League spot.
