MLS on Loan: Dom Dwyer bags a hat trick as Orlando City continue league dominance

Dom Dwyer with Orlando City SC

Our season-long series covering MLS products loaned out to lower-tier teams in the US and Canada:

USL PRO is Dom Dwyer’s world, and everybody else is just along for the ride. The speedy forward knocked three home en route to Orlando City’s convincing 7-2 victory over Antigua Barracuda this past weekend. The first of his three goals came after only one minute of play when he headed home a cross from Jamie Watson, and he added two more before his night was through.

Two Sporting KC players, Dwyer and Yann Songo’o, each went 90 minutes and have becoming instrumental in OCSC’s rise to the top of the league. They're currently 5-1-1 with a plus-13 goal differential.

Dwyer is now the clear frontrunner for the USL PRO golden boot with eight goals in seven games played.

Elsewhere in USL PRO, the Richmond Kickers continue to make the most of their MLS connections, with D.C. United's Michael Seaton netting a late insurance goal in a win over Wilmington.

The Kickers followed that up with a 3-3 draw vs. Charlotte, as D.C.'s Conor Shanosky played hero with a stoppage-time goal to earn the point. Brian Ownby of the Houston Dynamo also got on the board for Richmond in that one.

In the NASL, Enzo Martinez made his debut for the Carolina RailHawks at Minnesota United in a battle of undefeateds. Martinez, on loan from Real Salt Lake, entered with 13 minutes remaining and proceeded to shrug off an Etienne Barbara challenge before blasting home a 25-yard golazo, the best goal of the weekend in the second-division NASL. Both teams stayed undefeated with the 2-2 draw.
