The best team in the Eastern Conference just got deeper. The Montreal Impact announced on Monday the acquisition of 19-year-old Argentinean midfielder Maximiliano Rodríguez on loan for the rest of the 2013 season.

Rodríguez joins the Impact from Argentinos Juniors of the Primera A (Argentina's first division). He was part of Atlético Madrid's youth academy from 2007-09 before returning to his native Argentina. He will train with the Impact's first team starting Monday.

"He is a young player that has a lot of potential," Impact sporting director Nick De Santis in a statement. "We have been following him for over six months and I also had the chance to see him play in Argentina. He is a technically gifted player with a lot of raw talent. We feel that with some time on the field training with our experienced players and coaches, his talent can be refined. He is a young developmental project with a big upside."

A native of Buenos Aires, Rodríguez appeared in eight games for Argentinos Juniors since his debut with the club in 2010. He joins fellow Argentine Andrés Romero in Montreal, who is also on loan to the Impact.

As per league policy, details of the agreement were not disclosed.
