American Exports: Geoff Cameron can't help Stoke City snap their slump

Geoff Cameron with Stoke City

Geoff Cameron couldn’t help Stoke City hold off Newcastle United’s rally for a 2-1 defeat at St. James’ Park on Sunday.

The former Houston Dynamo man went the full 90 at right back for the Potters, but was helpless as Papiss Demba Cissé scored two minutes into injury time to grab the winner for the home team. Stoke have now lost seven of their last nine Premier League contests and now sit just nine points clear of the drop zone.

Brek Shea was in the 18 but did not feature for Stoke.

Brad Friedel also went unused as Tottenham Hotspur couldn’t follow up their Europa League whitewash of Inter Milan in midweek, as Spurs suffered a 3-2 loss at Liverpool.

In Turkey, Maurice Edu and Bursaspor missed a golden opportunity to jump into third place in the Süper Lig with a 4-1 loss at Istanbul giants Fenerbahçe. The US midfielder had a goal disallowed for offside in first-half injury time as Fener scored four uncontested goals for the victory.

Over in Germany, John Anthony Brooks went the full 90 as Hertha Berlin extended their lead atop the 2.Bundesliga to four points with a 2-1 win over MSV Duisberg at Olympic Stadium. Fellow German-American Alfredo Morales did not dress for Hertha.

Just north in Denmark, Clarence Goodson went the full 90 for Brøndby in their 3-0 win over Arhus, the Superliga cellar-dwellars’ first win in four matches.
