The Portland Timbers have become synonymous with their supporters group, the Timbers Army. Now their jerseys are moving in that direction as well.
The Timbers unveiled new primary and secondary kits, one featuring supporter chants, at a public event held at a local art gallery on Thursday night in Portland.
It leaves Chivas USA as the last of the 12 MLS teams to reveal their new kits during Jersey Week on Friday.
Supporters can pre-order the new Timbers kits by clicking here.
The primary kit builds on the Timbers' MLS look in recent seasons, maintaining the chevron theme on the front, but this time on the outline of the center panel. Some of the other features on the new primary shirt include Portland's city flag, the outline of the state of Oregon at the jock tag, the "Soccer City, USA" logo and a rising sun embossed on the back of the neck in homage to an old Timbers Army tifo and their “You Are My Sunshine” song.
The name of Portland's community organization "Stand Together" also shows up on the inside of the neckline.
But the most visible tweak appears on the front (see all the Timbers kit details here).
"It's got this historic v-neck that's made of mesh that's from the 1950s," said adidas product manager Mike Walker. "So it has a traditional look."
The v-neck style also appears on the red secondary kit, which carries the Rose City theme from last season. The Rose City logo is now on the jock tag at the lower left corner, but it's also now embossed around the team crest. And the Rose City thorns outline the center panel.
In case it wasn't clear to you that this was the "Rose City" jersey, the supporter chant "We Are The Rose City" is printed along the back, while another chant "You Cannot Stop Us" is highlighted on the neck line.
