Jersey Week: Chivas USA's new 2nd kit debuts LA-specific crest

Remember a few months ago when Chivas USA co-owner Jorge Vergara told a press conference that it was "time to learn" Spanish under the new regime at the club? He wasn't kidding.

In the final reveal of the first-ever MLS Jersey Week, Chivas USA unveiled their new alternate kits on Friday at an event at The Home Depot Center and the main new feature is a crest with a Spanish title that will be all the talk among the club's supporters.

"One of the great details is on the back we have the LA city crest that we've taken the middle part of the LA city flag and pulled that out and made it into a crest with 'Rebaño Angelino' as a way for them to communicate back to their fans," said adidas product manager Mike Walker.

That's "Angelino Flock," for those not in the know. It will appear just above the player names.

The Goats have made it a mission to reconnect with with their Chivas Guadalajara roots and LA's Hispanic fan base in 2013. They did with the hire of their coach, the makeup of their roster and now the new secondary kit. The neck tape on the short features the team colors and the blue fabric has a subtle striped design that is meant to pay homage to the team's striped first kit.

"The fabric that makes up the jersey has what we call a drop-needle fabric so it makes stripes out of that blue fabric," Walker continued. "So it looks like the traditional red-and-white rojiblanco stripes. But since it's an all-blue kit we wanted to have that tie-back to what they're most known for."

Chivas USA host the Columbus Crew on Saturday night (10:30 pm ET, MLS Live).
