FC Dallas midfielder Peter Luccin sidelined 6-8 months after knee surgery

FC Dallas midfielder Peter Luccin

FC Dallas midfielder Peter Luccin came into the team this winter having played just seven games since 2009. He'll have to wait quite a while to make it eight.

The veteran midfielder is officially sidelined for six to eight months after surgery to repair the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee, the club announced Friday.

The procedure was performed on Thursday by FC Dallas team physician Dr. Jim Walter at the Texas Health Center for Diagnostics and Surgery in Plano, Texas. Luccin suffered the injury in an early February preseason contest.

The Frenchman, 33, started his career in the youth system of AS Cannes before playing 118 matches in the French Ligue 1 between stints with Bordeaux, Marseille and Paris Saint-Germain. Luccin, a defensive midfielder, transferred into Spain’s La Liga in 2001, where he started a total of 215 matches with Celta de Vigo, Atlético Madrid, Real Zaragoza and Racing Santander. He was acquired by Dallas this offseason.

Luccin and defender Ugo Ihemelu (concussion symptoms) have both been placed on injured reserve.
