Jersey Week: LA Galaxy's new kits enter new world of quasars

If you didn't know what a quasar was, the LA Galaxy's new secondary kits will teach you a little bit of astronomy.

The quasar -- a galactic nucleus -- is one of the new features of the jersey unveiled on Wednesday night as part of the first-ever MLS Jersey Week in an event held at The Grammy Museum. Fans can preorder the jersey by clicking here.

"We're staying with the blue theme and we're really kind of focusing in on the quasar," said adidas product manager Mike Walker about the design which also appears on the back neck tape. "We've got the embossed pattern of that quasar that kind of runs through their home primary on the sash, but now it's embossed on the away up on the right shoulder and also on the left hem."

Also on that left hem are the words "This Is LA" on the jock tag, which Galaxy supporters will surely recognize.

"We have a call-out that goes back to the fans with a 'This Is LA,' which is one of the interpretations of their tifo that they've done during games," continued Walker.

Some of the other changes on the away kit: the gold star for their fourth MLS Cup title captured in 2012 -- a new annual tradition that is launching in 2013 -- and three stripes running down the sleeves which are now printed.

"The three stripes on the jersey also are now printed three stripes so we've tried to be even faster and lighter with that, reducing weight as much as we can," Walker said. "So that was a great touch that we could put into that jersey."

The LA Galaxy will also be releasing a new third kit later this year.
