PUEBLA, Mexico – Club Tijuana made it six points from two games in the Copa Libertadores by defeating Bolivia’s San José 4-0 on Tuesday, with US internationals Edgar Castillo and Joe Corona both getting on the scoresheet.
Left back Castillo opened the scoring in the Estadio Corona just four minutes in with a driven left foot shot from just inside the area which beat ‘keeper Carlos Lampe at his near post in the fourth minute, capitalizing on a clever backheel from striker Alfredo Moreno.
Castillo was again in form in the continental competition after providing the winning assist in Tijuana's win last week and seems to be riding a wave of confidence at present.
He wasn’t the only American celebrating though, with Corona providing a delicate finish to a Fidel Martínez cross to put Xolos 3-0 up and the game beyond San José in the 49th. Castillo made the pass to release Martínez on the left flank in the build-up to the goal.
Castillo completed the full game, while Corona was brought off in the 58th.
The victory cemented Club Tijuana in first place in Group 5 of the competition, with group rivals Corinthians and Millonarios playing on Wednesday.
