The US are into the quarterfinals of the CONCACAF U-20 championship thanks to a fortuitous result between Costa Rica and Haiti.
Heavily-favored Costa Rica made an early goal stand up in a 1-0 win, eliminating a game Haitian side that largely outplayed both the Ticos on Wendesday night and the Americans over the weekend in a 2-1 US win. Despite the solid performances, Haiti finish the three-team group on zero points, while the fewest the US or Costa Rica can end on is three.
That sets up a largely meaningless final Group A game between the US and Costa Rica on Friday.
The quarterfinals start next Tuesday, Feb. 26. The four semifinalists will advance to the U-20 World Cup in Turkey this summer.
