American Exports preview: Tijuana shoot for first in Liga MX

Joe Corona and Edgar Castillo of Tijuana

GUADALAJARA, Mexico – It’s back to grind in the Liga MX for the Americans who made the fruitless trip down to Honduras midweek.

Edgar Castillo is first up on Saturday in another important game for Club Tijuana against Club América in the border city (8 pm ET, UniMás). Teammate Joe Corona missed out on the international call but will be keen to impress in the weekend’s big match south of the border.

A win for Xolos could mean they finish the weekend on top of the Liga MX, but only if Jose Torres’ Tigres UANL slip up in Sunday’s trip to the “infierno” to face Toluca (1 pm ET, Univision).

Also Sunday, Herculez Gomez’s Santos Laguna host his former club, Pachuca, at the Estadio Corona (5 pm ET, Univision Deportes). The striker will have been disappointed not to feature for the US against Honduras, but will at least be fresh for the Guerreros as they look to move up from their sixth place in the table.
