Report: Quakes' Chavez injured, likely out for WCQ vs. USA

Marvin Chavez

San Jose's Marvin Chávez is one of the league's most devastating wingers. But only when he's healthy.

According to reports, the livewire Honduran picked up his first injury of 2013 while on duty with his national team, after suffering a knee-to-knee collision in practice with Bryan Beckeles.

The knock rules him out of this month's Copa Centroamericana which determines the Central American participants in the summer's Gold Cup. He's also very likely out of the February 6 World Cup qualifier vs. the USA in Honduras, the Hexagonal opener for both teams.

Chávez had three goals and a team-high 13 assists in 2012 as the Quakes won their first Supporters' Shield since 2005.

Club officials did not respond to requests for a comment on the injury at press time.
