American Exports: Guzan, Lichaj subjected to Chelsea rout

Guzan attempts to save Chelsea attempt

AMSTERDAM – A pair of former Chivas USA stars clocked in for Sunday action overseas, with Aston Villa netminder Brad Guzan eligible to sue for lack of support after an 8-0 thrashing at Chelsea.

The US backstop registered seven fine saves, including a late penalty stop on Lucas Piazon. It was a measure of revenge for Chelsea, who lost to Guzan and Villa at Stamford Bridge last season.

Eric Lichaj worked 58 subpar minutes at the left midfield post, but was only directly at fault for one goal after failing to close down the crosser on Fernando Torres' opener. In the end, Villa's first EPL defeat in six games dipped them two spots in the table to 16th.

Over in Belgium, Sacha Kljestan and table-toppers Anderlecht pulled off a thrilling 4-2 victory at Genk.

The Mauves blew a two-goal lead, recovered it with four minutes remaining and then survived a penalty miss by the hosts before adding on in stoppage time. The defending champs moved eight points clear at the top with the win, their ninth in a row in Jupiler League play.
