American Exports: Bradley, Lichaj shine in cup action

AMSTERDAM – A trio of Americans clocked in for domestic cup action across the pond on Tuesday, with Michael Bradley again performing solidly as AS Roma's midfield dominated in a 3-0 rout of visiting Atalanta in the Coppa Italia.

The win put the Giallorossi – who've raised the trophy nine times – in the quarterfinals for the 12th consecutive year. It also gave Roma five straight victories in all competitions, with Bradley having played every minute.

In English Capital One Cup play, Eric Lichaj set up the capper as Aston Villa advanced to the semifinals with a 4-1 romp at Norwich City.

With Brad Guzan serving as backup goalkeeper for the night, the left back logged an assist for the second straight tourney game. Near the end of a full shift of attacking activity, Lichaj helped complete a fine team move by crossing for Christian Benteke to fire home.

Belgian Cofidis Cup action saw Sacha Kljestan dealt a second-half yellow card as Anderlecht posted a 1-1 draw at Gent in the first leg of their quarterfinal tie. The Mauves ran their road unbeaten streak across all competitions to five games.
